National Coalition Against Domestic Violence

Founded in 1978, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) seeks to end violence in the lives of women and children through a national network of state coalitions and local organizations serving battered women and their children. “The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV)’s mission is to lead, mobilize and raise our voices to support efforts that demand a change of conditions that lead to domestic violence such as patriarchy, privilege, racism, sexism, and classism. We are dedicated to supporting survivors and holding offenders accountable and supporting advocates,” according to its website.

The coalition provides technical assistance to member groups, conducts community awareness campaigns, and develops public policy recommendations. It sponsors a national lobby day, providing state and local advocates with assistance in meeting with their members of Congress to discuss anti-violence legislation. NCADV sponsors Domestic Violence Awareness Month every October to focus attention on the problem and a national registry, called “Remember My Name,” of women killed as a result of domestic violence.

Its website has information for women and men in abusive relationships and the actions they can take to protect themselves. The hotline number is: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) TTY 1-800-787-3224.
