From Suffrage to the Senate America's Political Women: An Encyclopedia of Leaders, Causes & Issues

Lee, Susie (b. 1966)

Democrat Susie Lee of Nevada entered the U.S. House of Representatives on January 3, 2019. She had unsuccessfully run in a neighboring congressional district in 2016. After she received phone calls from women politicians she admired, encouraging her to continue to pursue her political goals, she ran a second time and won.

Her priorities include the economy, vocational apprenticeships and solutions to student debt, forest, water, and land issues. “It’s like the economy is humming, but they [constituents] are still having trouble making ends meet, making that paycheck stretch through the end of the month, let alone being able to save to save for their children or their retirement,” she said.

Born in Canton, Ohio, Lee earned her BA degree in 1989 and her MPM degree in 1990, both at Carnegie Mellon University.
