From Suffrage to the Senate America's Political Women: An Encyclopedia of Leaders, Causes & Issues

Huffington, Arianna Stassinopoulos (b. 1950)

Political columnist and author Arianna Huffington created The Huffington Post, a blog with over three million visitors per month. “I am obsessive and the Internet rewards obsession,” she has said about her successful site. Huffington, initially a conservative pundit who became increasingly moderate in her political views, criticized President George W. Bush and his administration. She later stepped away from Huffington Post and founded Thrive Global, a health and wellness corporation.

Huffington entered the Washington, D.C. political scene in the early 1990s, when her former husband, Michael Huffington, served in Congress. Following their divorce, Arianna Huffington became increasingly visible as a frequent talk show guest, columnist, and author. She had written two biographies and other works prior to becoming a political columnist. She has since written political satires and commentaries, including Greetings from the Lincoln Bedroom (1998) and How to Overthrow the Government (2000). Arianna Huffington was an unsuccessful Independent candidate for governor of California in 2003.

Born in Athens, Greece, Huffington earned her MA at Cambridge University in England.
