Dean, Madeleine (b. 1959)

Democrat Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania entered the U.S. House of Representatives on January 3, 2019.

During her campaign in 2018, her priorities included ending gun violence, access to health care for all, education (including interest-free college student loans), ending the opioid epidemic, and a compassionate immigration policy. She also supports Planned Parenthood and family health. One of her motivations in running for Congress was that there were no women representing Pennsylvania in Congress—although women make up half the state’s population.

Dean served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2012 to 2018.

Congresswoman Dean earned her BA degree at LaSalle University in 1981 and her JD degree at Widener University Delaware Law School in 1984.
