The Chronicles of Narnia

by C. S. Lewis

1950-1956

Novel

Children's, Series

As a children's fantasy epic spanning seven books, considered to be Lewis' life's work and literary masterpiece, The Chronicles of Narnia have become a cultural staple for many early readers, and those inspired by fantasy. Consisting mostly of allegorical tales of good versus evil, The Chronicles feature themes heavily influenced by classic biblical tales.

In book 1, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the Pevensie siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy find themselves in the mystical land of Narnia. With the help of the Lion, Aslan, the children are able to defeat the evil White Witch, who had been ruling over Narnia, in a state of perpetual winter, for over a century.

In book 2, Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia, the Pevensies return to Narnia in order to aid Prince Caspian in becoming King.

Book 3, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, focuses on the now King Caspian, in his quest to find seven lords who had been banished by his evil uncle, Miraz.

In Book 4, The Silver Chair, the Pevensies' cousin, Eustace, and his friend, Jill, are given the task of finding King Caspian's son, Rilian, who had been missing for the past ten years.

Book 5, The Horse and His Boy, tells the story of a talking horse named Bree and a young boy named Shasta as they make their return home to the land of Narnia.

Book 6, The Magician's Nephew, is a prologue to the rest of the saga, and answers many questions regarding the true nature of Narnia and its creation.

Finally, in book 7, The Last Battle, the Chronicles end with the untimely destruction of the realm of Narnia, as the god-like creature Aslan leads his faithful followers into the true Narnia, ushering in a golden age that would last eternity.
